Solar panel maintenance
Solar panel cleaning in Panama City and the Florida Panhandle.
Professional rooftop solar-panel cleaning by Mikel Wentworth of Solar Off Grid Solutions. With 11+ years of hands-on solar experience, I work around the array with an understanding of the equipment as well as the glass. Based near Chipley and serving Panama City, Panama City Beach, and the Florida Panhandle by appointment.

From $249
Solar panel cleaning pricing: up to 20 accessible panels
Standard cleaning starts at $249 for up to 20 readily accessible rooftop panels. Send your panel count and safe ground-level photos for a written scope before scheduling. More panels are quoted by array size.
Starting price, not a universal flat rate. Heavy bird droppings or nesting debris, stubborn buildup, steep or high roofs, difficult access, longer travel, and larger arrays may cost more. Troubleshooting, wiring repairs, and critter guard are separate services and are quoted before any added work.
Tallahassee cleaning & shade reduction: real before-and-after photos
See the cleaning difference across a ground-mounted array, right down to the module barcode, plus the vegetation work that opened its solar window.

Field estimate: trimming adds three or more hours of sunlight to roughly half the array during the affected solar window. Energy-production gains have not yet been measured.
Another cleaning project: buildup at the panel edge
This photo from a separate Solar Off Grid Solutions project compares two neighboring panels during cleaning. The panel on the left shows the before condition, including pink-colored buildup along its lower edge. The panel on the right shows the cleaner surface after the work.

Why solar panels get dirty in Northwest Florida
Panhandle arrays face a mix of seasonal pollen, tree cover, humidity, birds, and—in coastal locations—salt carried in the air. What collects on your roof depends on the site, slope, and surrounding trees.
Pine and oak pollen
Spring pollen can form a film on module glass. Dust and fine debris may collect with it, especially after dry spells or near unpaved areas.
Birds and organic debris
Droppings can adhere to the glass; leaves, pine needles, insects, and nesting material may accumulate along lower module edges or beneath the array.
Coastal and shaded roofs
Panama City Beach, Destin, and Pensacola roofs can see salt residue. Damp, shaded areas may develop organic buildup that deserves a closer look.
Rain rinses some loose material, but it may leave adhered droppings, pollen film, and buildup at the frame edge. A visibly dirty panel does not by itself prove a system fault. Compare monitoring data on similar sunny days, and investigate a sudden production drop separately.
A cleaning plan that fits your solar equipment.
Review the array
Share the panel brand if known, approximate count, roof type, and photos from the ground. I review pitch, height, access, visible contamination, and the panel maker’s care instructions before quoting.
Match the cleaning method
I use a non-abrasive method appropriate for the module and conditions, without scraping dry grit or blasting the glass with a pressure washer. Water quality, tools, and timing are selected with the manufacturer’s instructions in mind.
Discuss any other concerns
While working around the array, I may notice obvious cracked glass, loose components, exposed wiring, or nesting activity and tell you what I see. Cleaning is not a complete electrical inspection; faults and persistent low output call for separately scoped diagnostics.
Cleaning vs. Shading: Why Diagnosing the Difference Matters
Cleaning removes dirt, pollen and organic buildup from module surfaces. It cannot correct production loss caused by trees blocking direct sunlight. Vegetation immediately beside the array and changing seasonal shade also need separate consideration.

During an October 2, 2026 Northwest Florida assessment, dirty modules and substantial tree obstruction were present together. The winter sun path met heavy canopy; the higher summer path still had restrictions. No percentage improvement from cleaning was measured.
See the tree-shading and solar production field assessment for the photos and diagnostic process. If production remains low, solar diagnostics can help separate maintenance concerns from equipment or monitoring faults.
Solar-specific care from an experienced technician
I have worked in solar installation, rooftop service, diagnostics, technical training, and quality work since 2015. Cleaning is scoped for the array, with care around rooftop wiring, connectors, mounting hardware, and adjacent electrical equipment. I do not disturb components unnecessarily.
Normal cleaning
A cleaning plan for the accessible module surfaces and their visible buildup, using a method compatible with the module manufacturer’s instructions. The $249 starting scope is up to 20 readily accessible panels.
Heavy buildup and access
Bird droppings, nesting debris, algae or other stubborn deposits, tall or steep roofs, and unusual access are reviewed for a site-specific quote. Pest removal, repairs, or guard installation are not assumed to be included.
When output stays low
Soiling is only one possible reason for low production. Monitoring, shading, inverter faults, wiring issues, and failed components need separately scoped solar diagnostics.
If I see obvious wildlife activity, ask about critter guard and pest-damage service. For a roof project, see panel removal and reinstallation.
Solar panel cleaning questions
How much does solar panel cleaning cost in Florida?
Solar Off Grid Solutions starts at $249 for normal cleaning of up to 20 readily accessible panels. Panel count, roof access, travel, and heavy buildup can change the quote. Send ground-level photos and your ZIP code for an accurate scope.
How often should solar panels be cleaned in the Florida Panhandle?
There is no one schedule for every roof. Check for visible film, bird droppings, or edge buildup after pollen season or a long dry period, and review your panel maker’s instructions. Some arrays need little intervention; others near trees or birds need more attention.
Does Florida rain clean solar panels?
Rain can carry off loose dust, particularly on tilted panels. It may not remove adhered bird droppings, pollen film, algae, or debris held at lower edges.
Does pine or oak pollen affect solar output?
A substantial film can block some light, but the effect depends on how much covers the modules and other conditions. A production change should be compared with similar-weather days; cleaning cannot fix an inverter or wiring fault.
Can bird droppings reduce solar production?
Droppings can shade parts of a module and remain after rain. Persistent bird activity may also mean nesting debris beneath the array. The extent of any output effect varies, and suspected wiring damage needs separate attention.
Can I pressure wash solar panels?
Avoid directing a pressure washer at PV modules, seals, wiring, or rooftop electrical equipment. Cleaning should follow the particular module manufacturer’s guidance and use tools that will not abrade the glass.
Is professional cleaning worth it? Will it restore lost production?
It can be worthwhile when buildup is significant or safe roof access is a concern. Any production change depends on the original soiling, array angle, weather, shade, and system health. No fixed gain or restoration is promised.
How long does cleaning take?
Timing depends on panel count, roof layout, access, and the type of buildup. Send photos for a more useful estimate before the appointment.
Do you clean panels installed by another solar company?
Yes. The installing company does not have to be Solar Off Grid Solutions. Share any equipment details or care instructions you have.
What if the original installer is no longer in business?
We can discuss cleaning and separately scoped service on many existing systems regardless of who installed them. Manufacturer warranties and any former installer workmanship agreement are separate.
Can you troubleshoot a system that still underproduces after cleaning?
Yes. I offer solar diagnostics and repair as a separate service. Share monitoring screenshots, inverter messages, and when production changed so we can choose the right starting point.
Can you install critter guard after cleaning, and where do you work?
Ask for a combined scope if birds or squirrels are active. Critter guard is quoted separately. Based near Chipley, I serve Panama City and Panama City Beach, plus communities across the Florida Panhandle from Tallahassee toward Pensacola by appointment.

Storm debris: check safety before arranging cleaning
Cleaning is a maintenance service, and electrical damage needs its own assessment. If panels are cracked or displaced, wires are exposed, or equipment was flooded, keep clear and request storm damage solar assessment before cleaning or restarting the system. Once condition and access are safe, remaining surface buildup can be included in a separate cleaning quote.
