Tallahassee solar panel cleaning & shade reduction

Cleaner panels. A more open solar window. This ground-mounted Tallahassee array needed both surface cleaning and vegetation trimming to give it better access to sunlight.

Mikel Wentworth of Solar Off Grid Solutions cleaned the modules and trimmed nearby vegetation. These original before-and-after photos document the work, from the glass and module barcode to the surrounding solar window.

Solar panel cleaning: before & after

Leaves and a visible film of dirt had collected on the glass. Cleaning removed the loose debris and surface buildup, leaving the module surfaces visibly clearer. The wide views below show the same array from different angles.

After cleaning: debris removed and cleaner module glass.

The barcode tells the cleaning story

The module barcode gives a small, useful reference point: it is harder to see through the dirty glass in the before photo and clearer in the after photo. The difference is visible beyond the label, across the surrounding module surface.

These photographs show the cleaning result. They do not establish a percentage increase in energy production.

Vegetation trimming: opening the solar window

Cleaning addresses buildup on the glass. Trimming addresses vegetation blocking sunlight before it reaches the panels. At this Tallahassee property, nearby vegetation was restricting the array’s solar access, so both concerns were addressed during the visit.

After trimming: a more open southwest sky; some vegetation remains.

The before-and-after sun-path photographs are taken from slightly different angles. Their overlays help explain the field assessment; they are not a calibrated energy simulation. The cyan labels mark the December 21 reference path, rather than the date the work was performed.

Estimated result: 3+ additional hours of sunlight on roughly half the array

Based on the onsite solar-access assessment, Mikel estimates that the trimming will give roughly half this array three or more additional hours of sunlight per day during the solar window affected by the removed vegetation. Actual exposure varies with the season and remaining shade.

The cleaner glass also removes a source of light obstruction at the module surface. Together, the work is expected to support better production, but a measured kilowatt-hour or percentage gain has not yet been established.

Additional sunlight hours are not the same as full-power production hours. Reviewing monitoring data on comparable days is the next way to see how the system responds.

Solar cleaning and low-production help in Tallahassee

If your panels are dirty, shaded or producing less than expected, send your city or ZIP code, panel count, safe ground-level photos and any available monitoring screenshots. With 11+ years of solar experience, Mikel can help scope cleaning, a shade assessment or solar diagnostics for your system.
